Now that you have done the early-stage planning, have informed your employees and any external stakeholders that need to be made aware and hired your removal company, you can start to think about the next stage of your checklist.

Below is what you should be doing at least a couple of weeks before your move.

  • Ask employers to clear out their desks and send out communications informing them that the move is close, and they should take all of their belonging’s home with them the night before.
  • Start dismantling any furniture that is not regularly in use and that you are taking with you to the new office
  • Start packing up anything that won’t be needed in the near future.
  • Confirm the details of the move with your removal company
  • Start planning how you are going to layout your new office and draw up a plan. You can give this to the removal company who will be able to use it when putting the furniture and boxes in their place at the new office.

The process of moving offices is sometimes troublesome and inconvenient. Moving your whole business from one office to another needs an awful lot of planning and should not be left until the last minute. • Research removal companies and choose one. Book them in for the date of your move and have a discussion with them to let them know any requirements you might need, such as dismantling or wrapping of delicate items.
  • Inform your staff members of the move and the dates of each stage of the move, so they are informed and know exactly what is going on.
  • Appoint an appropriate staff member that will be the point of contact between the business and the removal company you have decided to use.
  • Write a list of all of the equipment and office furniture that you will be taking with you. It might also be useful to make a list of what you are leaving behind.
  • Make a note of any letterheads or business cards that will need to be amended right before the move, so that anything with your address on it is rectified. You will also need to ensure that your website is changed with the new address.
