South Africa has recently witnessed a major shift, as many folks are choosing to relocate within the country – often moving from big cities to smaller towns or coastal areas. This semigration, short for semi-emmigration, describes relocating from one part of a country to another.
The semigration to the Western Cape, has been fueled by the desire for better safety, more job opportunities, and an enhanced quality of life. Over the last 5 years, Cape Town and its surrounding towns have been the hotspot, with many of our clients using our weekly furniture transport services from Johannesburg to Cape Town. The beautiful Garden Route and even Durban, KZN, have also become popular destinations for those looking to start a new chapter.
Interestingly enough, Johannesburg is still the biggest business hub in the country, and our long-distance moves from Durban to Johannesburg have always been in high demand, with many people reaching out. However, the average cost and furniture volume for these moves have been lower than usual, suggesting that our recent clients are likely younger people and families with more modest living situations.
